The receiver is the integral part of the wireless control system. While it is called a lighting system, the switches can be used to switch off any 12v item where the amperage is less than 5amps. (max 15amps for the receiver).
This small box which is only 95mm x 65mm gets connected to your lights or devices with wire, but the switches can be located anywhere, and can also be paired to the remote control. The remote control can only work on the same channels that have been paired with a switch.

To control a device or appliance that uses more than 5amps, eg. a water pump, you will need to use a relay - where the relay only needs a small current to isolate a higher current appliance.
